The categories split by what they attach to. Grips attach to the phone and improve how you hold it. Straps and tethers attach the phone to you, so it survives an open hand. Armbands and crossbody carriers hold the phone when you are not using it at all. Most buying mistakes are someone choosing from the wrong group.

What is the best phone accessory to stop dropping your phone?
A wrist tether, because it is the only category that keeps working after your hand opens. Grips, rings and pop-out holders all improve how you hold the phone, but every one of them depends on you still holding it.
Do phone grips work with wireless charging?
Most do not, because they sit on the back of the phone across the charging coil. Anything that attaches at the case edge rather than the back leaves Qi and MagSafe working normally.
What does drop-proof actually mean?
Almost nothing. Drop-proof, drop-resistant and military grade are unregulated marketing terms for phone cases. Even MIL-STD-810G describes a test procedure rather than a guarantee, and manufacturers choose their own test conditions.
Is an armband or a wrist tether better for running?
An armband if you want the phone stowed and out of the way for the whole run. A wrist tether if you take the phone out to check pace, take calls or photograph something, since that is the moment a drop happens.
Will a phone strap fit my case?
Tab-based straps and tethers need a case that is closed at the bottom, which covers most standard cases. Bumper and open-bottom cases are the usual exception, so check before ordering.
Are adhesive phone grips a problem in Indian heat?
They are the most common complaint. Adhesive pads soften and lift in sustained heat and humidity, and they leave residue. Anything that clips through the case rather than sticking to it avoids the issue entirely.
