It happened on a boat on the Musi. Shooting a video, phone slipped, hit the railing, cracked the screen. A ₹15,000 repair bill. More than the phone, it was the helplessness of the moment - there was nothing to catch it.

The first instinct was to search for a solution. There were PopSockets (hold the phone differently), LoveHandles (a fabric strip on the back), and neck lanyards (cords that made you look like a tech support technician). None of them actually tethered the phone to the body. None of them were something you would want to wear as an accessory.

The problem turned out to be harder than expected. Elastic cord that looks good but holds 10+ kilograms of shock load. A clasp that clips in one hand, one-handed, every time, without snagging. A bracelet band soft enough for all-day wear but rigid enough to hold its shape. Materials that survive India's climate - monsoon humidity, summer heat, salt air at the coast.

The team ran 40+ prototype iterations. Medical-grade silicone for the band - skin-safe, sweat-resistant, temperature stable. 316L stainless steel for the clasp and plate - corrosion-resistant and built to last. A 360 degree swivel lobster clasp that spins freely so the cord never tangles mid-use.

When the 41st prototype survived 500 drop simulations, 48 hours in a humidity chamber, and 6 months of daily wear testing - PHLOOP BPH was ready.
